October High 5

Celebrating the Champions of the Ellsworth School Department: Meet our October 'High-Five Award' winners!

As we get into the full swing of the school year, our staff members continue to go above and beyond for our students! At our October School Board meeting, we honored three amazing members of our team for the work they do each day to make our schools a better place for us and our students. These staff members were chosen for their extraordinary dedication, their above-and-beyond compassion, and the impact they've had and continue to have on our students and community. Their stories remind us what makes Ellsworth such a special place to learn, live, and grow.

Beverly Macy: Kitchen Staff - EHS and Moore Center

Beverly Macy - October High FiveWhen two new pre-K classrooms opened at the Moore Center this year, the change created logistical challenges for meal service. Without hesitation, Beverly Macy, an a la carte cook at Ellsworth High School, stepped forward to help. Each day, she preps food at the high school, then travels to the Moore Center to serve our youngest learners—greeting them with a smile, keeping track of meals, chatting with students, and cleaning up before returning to finish her duties at EHS. Her willingness to go above and beyond has made her an invaluable teammate and a shining example of service with heart.

Cody Wiseman: Custodian - EEMS

Cody Wiseman - October High 5

At Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School, Cody Wiseman is known for his tireless support of both staff and students. One memorable example came when a student’s retainer was accidentally thrown away. Without hesitation, Cody searched through the trash—and even climbed into the dumpster—because he was determined to save the family the cost of replacement. Beyond moments like this, Cody is a steady leader, supporting his colleagues through his union work and always offering a helping hand to anyone in need. His dedication and selflessness make a daily difference in our school community.

Tara Mason: HCTC Business Leadership & Hospitality - CTE Teacher of the Year

Tara Mason - October High 5

This celebration extended beyond our district as Tara Mason, Business Leadership and Hospitality instructor at Ellsworth High School, was named the 2025 Maine Career and Technical Education Teacher of the Year at the statewide CTE Fall Conference. Tara has been a shining example of excellence in our district. Her dedication to her kids and their futures has shown since the moment she started with us. Nominated by her colleagues, Tara’s recognition places her among a growing group of Ellsworth educators who have earned statewide honors in recent years. Her passion for teaching and commitment to her students have made her a leader not only in our district but across Maine.

We are SO grateful for each of these honorees for making Ellsworth the amazing place it is. These members of our team are perfect examples of what makes our district, and our community, so special.

If you see them- make sure to give out a big High-Five! And don't forget to tell us about someone YOU find making a difference for our November High-Five Award! Nominate them right here!
