Clarification from EEMS on Fall sports We have seen a few posts and received a few emails with questions: Home school / fully remote students are able to tryout for soccer or run cross country. Soccer is for students grade 6-8. Cross country is for students grades 5-8 If a student is trying out for soccer (Grades 6-8): Parents are responsible for getting them here on the off days if they are hybrid. Parents are responsible for getting them here if they are fully remote. Cross country: If a hybrid student is participating in cross country (at this point in time) they are to be here on there color school days only. Coach will provide instructions for off days. If a fully remote student is participating in cross country (at this point in time) they are to be assigned to a cohort (Maroon or gray) by coach and to be here on there color school days only. Coach will provide instructions for off days. Sorry to say that we are still waiting on guidance for Drama. Please email twood@ellsworthschools.org if you have any further questions

EEMS is happy to announce fall sports. There are modifications to the season due COVID 19. Each coach as well as the AD are adhering strictly to the State guidance. There are only 100 people allowed to gather outside at a venue. While at this point spectators are allowed, they are limited to the number left over from the 100 after athletes, coaches, ADs, timers, other helpers and officials are accounted for. Please be aware of this protocol and help us maintain guidance of 100 people at an event. UPDATE ON THE SCHEDULE FOR THIS WEEK: This Wednesday (16th) and Thursday (17th) boys soccer tryouts are from 3 -4:15 the girl's soccer tryouts are from 4:30-5:45 both at EEMS baseball field. On off color days parents will be responsible for getting their child(ren) to tryouts and practices. (Practice schedules to follow). Cross-country will meet on the Elementary playground upon dismissal. Cross-country will practice from 3-4. At this time maroon will run on maroon days, gray will run on gray days and coach will provide directions for athletes on off color days. Here is a link to the permission form that must be in the coaches hand before the student may participate: https://docs.google.com/document/d/14wHZsp0lAD1Lo2TVKaDoI4VMl6j9PqL9fK63EU-_AsA/edit?usp=sharing Stay tuned for practice updates as well as meet and game schedules. Respectfully, Mr. Wood

ESD School Board Meeting Postponed to Friday, September 11, 2020 The agenda for this evening’s meeting included as its primary item “Discussion and Consideration of Fall Athletics.” As communicated when we postponed the Board meeting on Tuesday evening, we anticipated receiving updated guidance for school sports from the Maine Principals’ Association and State agencies earlier today. However, as of 2:15 p.m. this afternoon, that guidance has yet to be released to school departments. So that administration may review the revised guidelines and finalize a recommendation and that the Board may review, properly discuss, and consider the recommendation, we are postponing the meeting until Friday, September 11, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in City Council Chambers, broadcast on the city public access channel and streamed live over Facebook.

Dear EES (K-4) Parents, Thank you for calling, emailing, and completing the survey questions to ensure that EES had all the information needed to meet your child’s learning needs for the start of the school year. Mrs. Richards, Mrs. Perlman, Mrs. Webber, Ms. Lagasse and Mrs. Brown will all be working directly with our remote only students. This has caused a shift in homeroom placements for many students, even if you were not placed in their homerooms. Please know that all changes in class placements have been reviewed by the previous grade level teachers including specialists and support services. Letters from your child’s teacher for school year 2020-20221 will be mailed soon. I am so proud of our Ellsworth community for the support they have shown our school. It is going to be a great year. Mrs. Clifford, Principal K-4

2019-20 K-4 Vacation Reading Challenge Bikes for Books Drawing Tuesday, August 18th During the 2019-20 school year, students at EEMS in grades K-4 had the opportunity to have their name entered, up to 3 times, into an end-of-year bike drawing by meeting the November, December, and February school break reading challenge. The Ellsworth Masons of Lygonia Lodge #40 have once again supported this effort by donating 10 bikes and helmets for the drawing— 2 (boy/girl) for each K-4 grade level. Families of each winner will receive a phone call to coordinate a time for pickup at the school. Thank you to the Ellsworth Masons of Lygonia Lodge #40 for helping us with this effort for a 5th year!

Ellsworth Families: Please remember to check your email for a link to our Family Survey. The subject line is 2nd Update. We need your thoughts and ideas about how this year went and how next year can be structured. Your input is extremely important to us. Also, we have re-sent the Student Survey to your children if they have completed Grades 5-12 this June. There was a mistake made that caused several students to see words and sentences in the wrong places. Those errors have been corrected. Please remind your children to complete their survey before turning in their devices so that we can know how they experience remote learning and how we can support them. If you did not receive links to these surveys, please contact the help desk at tech@ellsworthschools.org. Thank you!
