LAW ENFORCEMENT
LAW ENFORCEMENT I: (AM Session)
Students will receive a blended mix of traditional classroom instruction on laws and basic police techniques as well as hands-on training. Additionally, students will be introduced to many of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Standards, providing students with an overview of a variety of aspects of police work, including:
Police Ethics
Use of force Training including OC (Pepper Spray) and Taser training, police baton (ASP) training, handcuffing and searching techniques.
OUI investigation, to include Standardized Field Sobriety Test Administration (SFST)
Traffic stops
Fingerprinting
Drug identification
Investigation.
LAW ENFORCEMENT II: (PM Session)
Students will expand on year one topics while also being introduced to the following:
Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT)
Maine criminal and motor vehicle code
Traffic accident investigation
Mechanics of Arrest, Restraint and Control (MARC)
Felony traffic stops
Evidence technician duties
Emergency management procedures
Courtroom testimony
CSI: crime scene investigation
Report writing
Firearms safety and proficiency, including a firearms simulator
Telecommunications dispatching and corrections
Second year students will also have the opportunity to participate in a ride along program with local Police Departments.
Throughout the two year program field trips are planned to area colleges, the Hancock County Jail, courthouse, dispatching center, Maine Criminal Justice Academy graduation, and Maine State Prison. We also host a number of guest speakers that represent a variety of career fields in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice.
