CYBERSECURITY

CYBERSECURITY I (AM Session)

Cybersecurity I explores the fundamental concepts of computer science and programming. Topics include algorithms, structured programming, expression evaluation, information coding, computer operations, software, networking, the object-based paradigm, the relational model, the information systems development life cycle, and human and organizational factors in information systems. Students learn ethical hacking by competing in Cyberstart America and the National Cyber League.

Programming languages include Java Script, Python, and Linux.  Students will have the opportunity to enroll in concurrent enrollment classes at the University of Maine Augusta.  Credits for UMA CIS 101 and CIS 110 are awarded if the student enrolls and passes Cybersecurity I.

CYBERSECURITY II (PM Session)

This course is a more advanced class. The curriculum is faster-paced, and more independent learning is required.  In addition to reinforcement of concepts from Cyber I, this class introduces telecommunications and networking. Topics covered include terms, concepts, equipment, protocols, and standards, network architecture, data security, the economics of network communication, and the impact of data networks.

The second semester of Cybersecurity II provides an overview of security challenges and strategies for protecting the information systems environment. Topics include the industry standards for securing network information and systems with a focus on the availability, vulnerability, integrity, and confidentiality of information systems. Students will work on both virtual and classroom equipment as well as the UMA cyber range, gaining experience with real networks and cyber attacks.

Students will have the opportunity to enroll in concurrent enrollment classes at the University of Maine Augusta.  Credits for CIS 240 and ISS 210 are awarded if the student enrolls and passes Cybersecurity II.
