My name is Dan Clifford and I am honored to be the principal at Ellsworth High School. My
family has lived in Ellsworth the last nineteen years and we love being a part of this community.
I taught at EHS for nine years and had a great experience. I want each of our teachers and
students to have the same experience I did and help EHS become a premiere high school in the state of Maine. EHS will continue to graduate students that are college and work ready, and send our students to some of the best colleges in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
I grew up in Derby Line, Vermont, a small town that borders Canada in beautiful northern
Vermont. I graduated from North Country Union High School and went to the University of
Southern Maine. I majored in History with a minor in Education, and played four years on the
men’s basketball team. After graduation my first job was at the University of MaineFort Kent, I coached the men’s basketball team and was the Residence Life Director for three years. I left UMFK to work at Ellsworth High School. I taught Social Studies, coached varsity basketball, and varsity golf during my nine teaching years here.
I received my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Maine and started my administrative career. I was the assistant principal and athletic director at Sumner Memorial High School for three years before doing the same job at Bucksport High School. After two years at BHS I was named principal and held that position at Bucksport High School for four years. I left BHS to become the principal at Ellsworth High School. Each working experience I have had I have been fortunate to work with great people, terrific students and players, and connected to communities I have worked in.
My wife April is the Technology Coordinator for the Ellsworth School Department and we have three daughters.
