I graduated from Ellsworth High School in 2006 and immediately attended the University of Maine at Orono. I graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor's of Science in Secondary Education with a focus in English and a Business Administration Minor. After a brief summer stint in Boston, MA following graduation, I realized that my heart was in the small, tight-knit community that only Ellsworth has to offer.
This will be my 5th year teaching at Ellsworth High School. I started my career at EHS as a special education teacher, a position which I embraced and learned a great deal from through the 3 years I spent in that department. During that time I became a Highly Qualified Teacher in Special Education grades 7-12 in addition to my Professional Certification in Secondary English Language Arts grades 7-12.
The 207-2018 school year will be my fourth year as a teacher in the English department. I thoroughly enjoy working with the high school age group. Working with the 9th grade class is very refreshing; these students are so hopeful for their high school experience and going through that with them every year is a joy. I also teach a section of 10th grade English. The purpose of this curriculum is to expand students' view and understanding of both their own and others' culture. A section of senior English is dedicated to a curriculum that they see as relevant, recognizing their growing and unique personalities, preparing them for their post-secondary endeavors, and helping to support their transition into "the real world".
I have also been the JV volleyball coach for 6 years and have also served in the past as the JV softball coach and a class advisor. I am currently the English department head. I find that investing in our school and community outside of the classroom allows me to get to know the students better and in different ways. I also feel that it is beneficial for them to see me as a real person, not only as a teacher, in a non-classroom platform.
